TANJUNGPINANG – Raja Ali Haji Maritime University (UMRAH) Tanjungpinang through the Faculty of Economics will hold an international conference entitled Maritime, Economics and Business International Conference (MEBIC) on 24-25 September 2021 virtually in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands.

The International Conference which was held as a concrete action to realize the Blue Economy will present Prof. Gunter Pauli, Founder of Zero Emissions Research Institute as initiator of Blue Economy.

Gunter Pauli who is often called “Steve Jobs of sustainable development” will deliver his presentation about Blue Economy Supporting Ecosystems.

The concept of the blue economy was first introduced by him in his book (2010) entitled Blue Economy: “10 Years-100 initiatives-100 Million Jobs” the book reveals the ultimate goal of the blue economy model, which will shift society from scarcity to abundance with what they have. .

Some of the main principles of Gunter Pauli’s thoughts related to the blue economy concept, at least referring to resource efficiency, zero waste, social inclusion, social equity and job opportunities for the poor, innovation and adaptation as well as the multiplier economic effect.

Besides Gunter Pauli, MEBIC 2021 will also present M. Kabir Hassan from New Orleans University USA, Elvia Shauki from the University of South Australia, Zhiwei Zhang from the First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China, Mahbubi Ali from the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies Malaysia. and Henri Jean-Marie Dou from the University of Aix-Marseille, France.

No less important, the International Conference with the theme “Mari-Sociopreneurship: Real Action for Blue Economy” will be opened by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, B.B.A, M.B.A

Towards the day of the conference, the Rector of UMRAH Prof. Dr. Agung Dhamar Syakti, S.Pi, DEA is optimistic that this event will be successful.

“I am sure MEBIC will be successful, Blue Economy is an interesting topic to discuss. Where the concept is very suitable for Indonesia. As said by Prof. Gunter Pauli said that the implementation of the Blue Economy initiative could be a business model that could turn Indonesia into an economic powerhouse that is able to respond well to the needs of its people”. Obviously Prof. Agung who is also the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Oceanology Undergraduate Association (ISOI).

Articles that pass the selection at MEBIC 2021 will be published in scientific journals that are partners of MEBIC 2021 publications such as the Australian Journal of Maritime and Ocean Affairs (SCOPUS Q3), Journal of Accounting and Business (SINTA 2) and EAI Proceedings (European Alliance for Innovation).
