BINTAN – Rector of Maritime University Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH) Prof. Dr. Agung Dhamar Syakti, S.Pi, DEA and the Rector of the University of Riau Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Aras Mulyadi, M.Sc conducted monitoring of marine conservation areas on Mapur Island, Bintan Regency. Sunday (3/10).

In the monitoring, the group was accompanied by the Ecology Foundation Team, which has played an active role in conservation activities in the coastal and marine areas of the Riau Archipelago Province.

Monitoring activities began by circling the waters of Mapur Island and continued to the mainland coastal areas.

To UMRAH Public Relations, UMRAH Rector Prof. Agung Dhamar Syakti said that the establishment of a research station was the main target to be established by UMRAH and in collaboration with several stakeholders.

He is very optimistic that conservation activities on Mapur Island will be better conceptualized, with the presence of a research station in the area.

According to him, in the future, if a research station can be built, it will make it easier for researchers to conduct research in the Mapur Island area.

Not only research, according to Prof. Aras, Community Service activities can also be carried out in the area. Such as community assistance activities in carrying out marine ecotourism activities.

On the same occasion, UNRI’s Rector Prof. Aras Mulyadi said he agreed with the UMRAH plan to build a research station in the area.

According to him, the presence of the research station on Mapur Island is very good. Beside from being a media to support sustainability in conservation areas, it can also be a source of continuous data information.

The UNRI Rector also agreed with the community assistance activities in the development and management of marine ecotourism in the Mapur Island conservation area.
